Anthony Fortuna

Born and raised in Scranton PA, Anthony Fortuna is a unique instrumentalist that specializes in multiple woodwinds. Anthony is currently pursuing a doctorate in music performance, pedagogy, and literature at James Madison University with a concentration in multiple woodwinds. Previous to his attendance at James Madison University, he was award a bachelors of music in music education from Marywood University, and a masters of music in woodwind performance/pedagogy from Ohio University.

 

Anthony has performed with numerous professional ensembles such as The Northern Tier Symphony, NEPA Lyric Opera Orchestra, Northern Appalachian Wind Symphony, Rockbridge Symphony, Scranton Bach Festival Orchestra and The Civic Orchestra at Wyoming Seminary. Anthony has been a featured oboe soloist with the Marywood University Symphony Orchestra and bassoon soloist with the Marywood University Summer Band. In addition to his ensemble performances, he has been a featured solo recitalist on WVIA radio’s segment ‘Music at St. Stephens’. He also has experience performing as a church musician and musical productions.

 

Combined with his passion for woodwinds and performance is his love of pedagogy and teaching. Students of Anthony’s have gone to win competitions and place highly in PMEA, OMEA, and VMEA band and orchestra festivals, PMTA/MTNA competitions, and be awarded entrance into mentorship programs with professional symphony orchestras.  Students that have decided to pursue music in higher education have been offered acceptance and scholarship into university music programs. Most recently he has founded and directs an intensive woodwind ensemble summer music program for high school level students called Camp Bläserwinds. Someday, Anthony hopes to pursue a career amongst academia and collegiate applied teaching.
